  : It was a simple, inexpensive place to stay. I was on the second floor, which felt safer, and parked my car right next to the window of the 24-hour office.
  : The clerk was confused that I had prepaid on Booking.com, but accepted the proof of payment that I showed her. I'm not familiar with Albuquerque, and I didn't spend any time in the town, just a stop to sleep. But the neighborhood was scary to drive through, as a solo female. Several cars passed me, after dark, driving with their lights off, stuporous pedestrians stumbling into traffic, and the driving directions took me down narrow residential streets where children were playing in the unlit road. I saw people I'd have to identify as tweakers on the street in front of the motel. The rooms all open on to the parking lot. I didn't feel unsafe in my room, but I was glad to leave the town behind me.

  : This place is a dive run by a drunken lunatic. Presumably one of the technically homeless “long term guests” attempting to work off his room fees.
