  : This is a nice hostel on Vasil'yevskiy ostrov (island), north of the Neva River. Both Peter and Paul Fortress on Zayachiy ostrov (Hare Island) and Dvortsovaya ploshchad' (Palace Square) on the other side of the Neva River are about thirty minutes away by foot.Most of what you'd normally be looking in a hostel can be found here. The bedrooms are decently large. Linen is free. Next to each bed is an outlet and a light. Personal lockers are next to the bed, and are also decently large. The bed frames are apparently made of old wooden pallets, and are decently sturdy.The common areas are huge. In one of the common rooms, there's an old but working stereoscopic slide machine, though if you don't understand the instructions (in French, if I remember correctly), you should probably ask the staff how it works so that you don't break it. A caged bird also apparently lives here. There's a video game system in the other common room, although I don't know which one, as I don't travel to play video games in different hostels.The kitchen has the basic necessities, including a refrigerator, a microwave, and a portable stovetop. Drinking water is also available. The bathrooms are spacious, and there are enough toilets and showers that I've never had to wait to use one. WiFi worked well, including in the bedrooms. Everything looked fairly new and clean. Note that the hostel is a bit hard to find as it's tucked away in an inner courtyard past a bunch of trash cans, and the appropriate door is only marked with an easily-missed sheet of paper (at least when I arrived). There was a van (with the hostel's name written on it) parked outside the appropriate street entrance, but I didn't notice it until well after I arrived, and I don't know if it's permanently parked there.
  : Although the hostel offers all the basic necessities, there are plenty of other hostels that do so at roughly half the price, and the additional benefits this hostel offers aren't really worth it. For example, the stairwell decorations look neat but is not important.Also, some of the staff don't really seem that interested in the guests. For example, their description says that chocolate or cookies are available, and I was looking forward to them as I went on a hard run that morning, but they said they were out and seemed to try to placate me by saying more would be delivered that evening or tomorrow, maybe hoping I'd forget about it. Later that evening, they said they'd likely arrive after I checked out. Maybe more did arrive after I checked out, but the way they dealt with me made me believe otherwise. At other hostels, someone will go out to get supplies if they ran out, but not here. It feels like they feel like they have somewhere else more important to be, like spending time with a friend that's always on their phone. In fact, the reception desk often isn't manned.Foreigner registration is not done here.Note that some rooms are on the fifth floor and there isn't an elevator.The kitchen is surprisingly small considering how large the rest of the common areas are.The beds might not be as wide as normal because, when using wooden pallets to construct the bed frames, the size of the mattresses is restricted. I think one of the drunk guests in my room fell out of his bed during the night and just slept on the floor.My locker key actually also opened the locker next to mine, so I don't know how safe the lockers are. I found out because I was assigned to the wrong locker but my key worked anyway. When the guy assigned to the locker I was using found my stuff in his locker, we were both surprised.

  : The bed is very cozy. The bird is cute and so as the staff.
  : The air is very stuffy when you take the shower. We have been Iocked out of the hostel in the midnight and no one answered the door. It kept us waiting for an hour until 3 am. It was very unprofessional. Things needed to be improved since the hostel is newly founded.
